Aníbal Irizarry is an Of Counsel in the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group and has been with the firm since 1969. He was formerly an attorney in the Regional Office of the National Labor Relations Board in Puerto Rico, and with the Legal Division of the Puerto Rico Department of Labor.

Practice Areas

Mr. Irizarry's areas of concentration include litigation in the courts of Puerto Rico, workplace safety issues, employment discrimination matters, wage and hour matters, collective bargaining and labor arbitration. He is also active in matters requiring presentations before the Puerto Rico legislature.

Education

He obtained a Bachelor's Degree with high honors from the University of Puerto Rico, a Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico and Master's Degree in Labor Law from New York University.

He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Courts, the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and United States Supreme Court.

Memberships

AAdjunct professor and lecturer, University of Puerto Rico Institute of Labor Relations and the Management Development Center, 1968-1970. Adjunct professor, Interamerican University Graduate School of Business Administration, 1975-1978; professor, Interamerican University Law School, 1973-78.

In 1973 he was appointed advisor to a Special Governor's Commission on Unionization of Public Employees; member of the Governor's Labor Advisory Council, 1977-84; for several years he was a member of the Labor Law Commission of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, President of the Labor Committee of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, 1994-95, 1997-98, member of its Board of Directors, 1995-98 and President of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, 1998-99. President of the Association of Labor Relations Practitioners, 1980-82; 1986-88 and 1994-96. Member of a Governor's Committee on Labor Law Reform, 1998-1999.

Publications

Mr. Irizarry is the author of a book entitled "Reflections and Anecdotes About the Labor and Employment Field". He published a weekly column for El Nuevo Dia and has been a very active advocator for a Labor Reform, and for an aggressive and innovative approach toward the economic development of Puerto Rico.
