The Hon. Baltasar Corrada del Rio is a retired Associate Justice of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court and is now Of Counsel of the firm's Litigation Practice Group. From 1993-1995, Mr. Corrada del Río served as Secretary of State for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. He also served as Mayor of Puerto Rico's capital, San Juan, from 1985 to 1989 and as Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico in the United States Congress from 1977 to 1985.

Education

Hon. Corrada del Río received his B.A. in Social Sciences in 1956 from the University of Puerto Rico and his Juris Doctor in 1959 from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Law.

Achievements

As mayor of San Juan (Population of 435,000), Mr. Corrada managed an annual budget of $200 million and directed workforce of approximately 9,600 employees. He hosted the U.S. Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting in 1986. He was also president of the Board of Directors of the Inter American Foundation of Cities from 1985 until 1989.

As president of the Inter American Foundation of Cities, Mayor Corrada chaired the Second and Third Conferences of the Great Cities of the Americas held in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Willemstad, Curacao in 1986 and 1988, respectively. The conferences were attended by mayors and other officials of cities in North, Central, South America and the Caribbean. The Board of Directors, chaired by Mayor Corrada, was composed of 12 majors, three from each of the four mayor regions of the Western Hemisphere. He attended as special guest and participant at the Fourth Conference of the Great Cities of the Americas held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in September 1990.
