Based on current market demands, and considering our reputation in the area, this group was recently developed to best serve our clients in the preparation and negotiation of agreements for the design and construction of real estate projects, structuring real estate transactions, including selection of entities (corporation, partnership or trust), and structuring the debt and equity components of real estate transactions amongst others.

Our expertise in the hotel and resort development is unmatched, having participated in the financing of all of the recent major hotel and resort projects in Puerto Rico, as well as in the first significant time-share program in the island, the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar. McConnell Valdés was in the vanguard for practically every tourism and large-scale hotel development in Puerto Rico. Our partners, Harry Cook and Roberto Cabañas were responsible for drafting the Tourism Act of 1993, which propelled the development of hotels such as the Westin Río Mar and El Conquistador and allowed other hotels such as Palmas del Mar to expand their operations in Puerto Rico.

Our experienced Real Estate and Commercial Financing Attorneys work closely together in the preparation and negotiation of documentation for real estate transactions. They also provide assistance in applying for and obtaining Puerto Rico and federal permits for the development of real estate projects in coordination with the Environmental and Land Use Practice Group.
