Summer Program

Each Fall the firm recruits a selective group of law students for the McConnell Valdés Summer Program. The program's objective is to provide our summer associates with a unique professional experience that will expose them to the breadth and quality of our law practice.

The McConnell Valdés Summer Program is designed to actively involve summer associates in a wide variety of client matters, such as corporate negotiations and transactions, client meetings, depositions and courtroom sessions. It also offers summer associates opportunities to interact with our attorneys in both office and social settings. The firm sponsors several social events which allow our attorneys and summer associates to meet and get to know one another in an informal environment.

With the objective of maintaining an equitable and diverse workload and to provide the summer associates with work that is substantially similar to the work routinely given to our first-year associates, the program is divided into three rotations of approximately three or four weeks each. Over the course of the program, our associates may rotate throughout the firm's six Practice Groups. Each rotation is under the supervision of an attorney (assignment supervisor) in charge of collecting and distributing work assignments.

Each summer associate is assigned an attorney who acts as his or her mentor throughout the program. Mentors are responsible for supporting and assisting the summer associates and for introducing them to the members of our firm.

For each assignment that a summer associate completes, the assigning attorney must submit an evaluation form to the assignment supervisor who then meets with the summer associate to informally discuss it. Our objective is to provide ongoing feedback to each program participant.

At the end of the program, the assignment supervisors meet with each summer associate in an exit interview to openly discuss all the evaluations and each summer associate's interest in the firm. In such interview, the summer associate is encouraged to share his or her views about the program and the firm.

We are proud of the fact that the McConnell Valdés Summer Program provides law students the unique opportunity of obtaining real-life legal experience in a wide variety of areas and the chance of becoming acquainted with our firm and our commitment to excellence.

Application and Interview calendar for the McConnell Valdés Summer Program:

  • Applications are accepted beginning the first week of September and interviews are scheduled shortly thereafter.
  • Hiring decisions are made on an on-going basis.
